An
Exciting Project with the National Library of Medicine
NexCare
Collaborative was selected by the National Library of Medicine (part
of the National Institutes of Health) to partner in a groundbreaking
community-based health project called Go Local.
The
goal of the Go Local project was to combine MedlinePlus®,
one of the most-viewed health care-oriented Web sites in the world
(over 170,000,000 page views in the second quarter of 2005), with
the extraordinary database of local healthcare services and providers
that was maintained by NexCare Collaborative,
Here’s how it would work: Let’s
say that you are searching the MedlinePlus Web site for information
on diabetes. In addition to the many articles, references, illustrations,
photos, and subject listings available from MedlinePlus, there is
also a link on the diabetes
front page to resources here in Southern California. For instance,
for diabetes, you will have access to local Family Practice, Internal
Medicine, Endocrinology, Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology
physicians, in addition to community clinics, private clinics, hospitals
and pharmacies. Once you provide either your zip code or your exact
address, you’ll have quick access to the closest providers
of these services… including maps and directions to those
providers.
