What
is NexCare Collaborative?
NexCare Collaborative is a service-oriented,
501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that serves healthcare and
social services needs of individuals and organizations through a
professional call center and comprehensive Web site. It is based
in Sherman Oaks, California.
Who
are the collaborators?
There have been more than 20 key collaborators comprising
NexCare Collaborative, including: the National Institutes of Health
(NIH); the National Library of Medicine; the UCLA School of Public
Health; Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; the Los Angeles County Department
of Health Services; the Los Angeles County Medical Association and
Shriners Hospital for Children.
What
has been NexCare Collaborative’s most successful project to
date?
The First 5 LA organization (created
by California’s 1998 Proposition 10 tobacco tax) awarded NexCare
Collaborative a grant for a three-year project entitled First 5
LA Connect, to develop an interactive communications program for
families with young children in Los Angeles County. NexCare Collaborative’s
developmental result was a highly-lauded, extremely successful professional
call center and Web site that linked families to more than 17,000
healthcare and social services agencies in Southern California.
Through the First 5 LA Connect project, NexCare Collaborative was
able to assist more than 100,000 Southern California children and
additionally assisted in the enrollment of more than 18,000 Los
Angeles County children into health insurance programs.
The success of the First 5 LA Connect program was
highlighted through its customer satisfaction statistics, which
included:
- More than 93% of all callers to NexCare Collaborative
reported that they were “very satisfied” with the
services they received.
- 99% said that they would call First 5 LA Connect
again.
- 98% said they would refer others to First 5
LA Connect.
- More than 99% considered NexCare Collaborative’s
Information and Referral Specialists “polite, patient and
respectful”.
How
successful has NexCare Collaborative been in reaching (and assisting)
Southern California’s ethnic populations?
Very successful, particularly with the fast-growing
Latino population. In fact, more than 10% of all Latino families
with children ages 0-5 in Los Angeles County were assisted by NexCare
Collaborative. NexCare Collaborative’s call center is featured
weekly during live television newscasts by the second largest Spanish-language
television network in the world, Telemundo (via its Southern California
Channel 52-KVEA).
Who
are NexCare Collaborative’s key leaders?
NexCare Collaborative was co-founded
by its President and CEO, Dr. Pejman Salimpour and its Senior Vice
President, Dr. Pedram Salimpour. Dr. Pejman Salimpour formerly served
as the Clinical Chief of Pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
and is currently Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the
UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Pedram Salimpour is the only person
ever to have twice received the American College of Physicians’
Research Award and is an Alpha Omega Alpha national research scholar.
He is currently a practicing pediatrician and serves on a number
of sub-specialty medical boards.
